The Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event stands as one of the most thrilling events on the international equestrian calendar each year. Celebrating and showcasing global excellence in the field of eventing, this annual competition, scheduled for April 23-April 26, 2026, has been the Kentucky Horse Park’s signature event since 1978.
Kentucky Horse Trials Series
The Kentucky Horse Park Foundation supports the Kentucky Horse Park’s efforts to remain a global leader in equestrian competition at all levels of the sport. To this end, the Foundation will assume an organizing role in several highly regarded Horse Trials in 2026, ensuring their success and continued presence at the Park.

Trail Rides
Explore the Kentucky Horse Park at the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation Trail Ride! All proceeds support the Kentucky Horse Park. Guests of all levels, breeds, and disciplines are invited to explore the Park grounds with their own horse for a $45 entry fee to access the trails from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The Spring 2026 Trail Ride will be held on Saturday, June 6th.
The Fall 2026 Trail Ride will be held on Saturday, September 12th.
Battle in the Saddle
The Kentucky Horse Park Foundation proudly presents the twelfth annual Battle in the Saddle Team Penning event on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the Kentucky Horse Park’s Covered Arena. Teams compete against each other to determine who has the skills and bravery needed to pen a group of cattle in the fastest time.
Southern Lights Stroll
The Kentucky Horse Park Foundation is delighted to host the 22nd annual Southern Lights Stroll and 5K presented by CHI Saint Joseph Health Creating Safer Neighborhoods Initiative. Be one of the first to experience this year’s stunning displays as you race or stroll through the Kentucky Horse Park. Southern Lights Stroll will take place on November 22, 2025!
Southern Lights Holiday Festival
Celebrating its 32nd year at the Kentucky Horse Park, Southern Lights presented by Friends of Coal is a magical holiday tradition for thousands of families throughout the Bluegrass and beyond. See over a million twinkling lights and enjoy the return of the Holiday Village, which promises to be brighter than ever! Featuring photos with Santa, Animal Land, model trains, and so much more, the Southern Lights Holiday Village is sure to delight guests of all ages.
